The mother of the Managing Director, Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Elder Rosa Uwaye Okhiria (Nee Ijagbone) who died on March 1, 2021, at the age of 85 has been buried today in her country home, Iruekpen, Edo State. This was contained in a statement signed by Eric Ojiekwe, D (PPR).
In his address, the MD, NRC, Engr. Fidet Okhiria said that his mother lived a life of giving, helping the needy, and empowering her immediate community, adding that ” this is not a time for mourning but rather a celebration of life.”
The Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, in the company of his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, prayed for the peaceful repose of Mama Okhiria and for God to fill the vacuum created by her exit.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, in her remarks noted that life expectancy in Nigeria is 45 years so for her to exceed and get to 85 is worthy of celebration. She equally acknowledged the selfless qualities of the late matriarch and prayed to God to grant her eternal rest.
The officiating Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor James Oluologun, in his sermon lauded the many qualities of Rosa Okhiria (aka Mama Medical). He also disclosed that she donated the piece of land on which the church in Iruekpen stands today.
Dignitaries in attendance at the burial were the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Victoria Irabor; the Auditor-General of the Federation, Adolphus Aghughu; APC Edo gubernatorial candidate in the last election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and members of the National Assembly among others.
