
The Nigerian Army has disclosed that a minor explosion leading to a fire outbreak occurred early Thursday, 14th August, 2025, at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
She revealed that “no lives were lost, and no injuries were sustained.” However, the structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials.
Explaining the circumstances that led to the explosion, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt Col Appolonia Anele said that it was a localized explosion which occurred within one of the storage buildings of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron leading to a limited fire outbreak.
It was learnt that immediately the incident occurred, the swift intervention by troops of the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, who worked in consonance with the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service, ensured that the fire was quickly contained.

She observed that detailed assessment was currently underway to determine the extent of material loss.
As a result and the possible panic wave such incident could have sent, Army spokesperson urged residents of Ilese and the adjoining communities to remain calm and go about their normal activities.
Adding that the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with relevant agencies, have commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the incident and to prevent a recurrence.
The Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all its personnel as well the members of neighbouring communities, Lt Col Anele reiterated.
