…SAYS WOMEN’S SILENT STRENGTH SUSTAINING MILITARY

Wives of military officers have been described as as the strength behind the uniform and pivotal to the successes achieved by their husbands in their daily responsibilities of combating insecurities and protecting the territorial integrity of the nation.

While making a remarks during an event to commemorate Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2025, the Chairperson of Nigerian Army Wives Association (NAOWA), 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto, Mrs Meg Ndidi Ajose said women are the “silent strength” sustaining the military.

She emphasized that their roles as caregivers, moral compasses, and vital connectors between the barracks and broader civilian society, cannot be downplayed.

Therefore, she called on the spouses to support the troops who are always at the front lines, reiterating that we are here to celebrate the indispensable role of women within the military community.

The event held to mark the celebration in the division under the theme: “The Strength Behind the Uniform,” lauded the wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters for providing unwavering emotional, psychological, and moral support to soldiers often from the sidelines.

In her keynote remarks, Mrs. Meg Ndidi Ajose, explained that “This week is not only about honouring our uniformed heroes – our husbands, brothers, fathers, and sisters, – it is about recognizing the women whose sacrifices often go unnoticed, but whose contributions are foundational to the strength and resilience of our armed forces.”

On a note of caution, she called on the women in military communities to be resolute in championing peace, advancing education, encouraging hygiene, and driving community development efforts.

Highlighting their roles as caregivers, moral anchors, Mrs Ajose noted that the women serve as the bridge between the barracks and civilian society.

She used the opportunity to pay glowing tribute to widows of fallen soldiers, stressing that their inevitable place within the military family, would continue to rekindle hopes of a brighter future for those in service.

“This NADCEL week is especially dedicated to you—the widows whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice. May God comfort you and grant you enduring peace,” she said.

As part of the event, there were sensitization lectures from three Guest speakers, who taught participants with practical tools for maintaining household stability and raising children during military deployment.

One of the Guest lecturers, Amira Bello, Mental Health Specialist, Federal University, Birnin Kebbi tutored the participants on mental wellness, while others tackled financial planning, and community-based support systems.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Ajose emphasized the imperative of unity and solidarity among women in the barracks, reiterating that their support one another and extend their impact beyond military formations.

“Let us continue to lift one another, deepen our impact, and build stronger families, healthier barracks, and a more peaceful Nigeria. Indeed, we are the strength behind the uniform,” she re-emphasized.
