MTN Nigeria has revealed that its network has suffered over 5,478 fibre cuts so far in 2025, with 760 incidents recorded in July alone. The disruptions, largely attributed to road construction activities and vandalism, have continued to affect service delivery across the country.
According to MTN, one of the most recent cases of vandalism occurred in the North-East, prompting MTN to schedule a maintenance exercise on Sunday, August 24, 2025, between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM. The operation will impact 101 network sites across 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kano, Adamawa, and Borno States.
The company explained that the intervention is part of its ongoing efforts to repair, reroute, and reinforce damaged infrastructure to guarantee service stability.
“This is one of the many ripple effects of vandalism, and while we work tirelessly to rebuild and restore, customers may temporarily experience service disruptions,” MTN said in a statement.
The telecom giant further extended its apologies to affected subscribers, assuring that the maintenance will ultimately strengthen network reliability in the region.
