The Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM), Brigadier General Wisdom Etuk has inaugurated the Junior Leadership and Staff Officers Course (JLSOC).
The 2/23 comprising 171 students from various Corps and Services, were Inaugurated on Friday, 3rd November, 2023, at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai Hall, NACOLM permanent site Ojo, Lagos.
The Special Guest of Honour (SGOH) and Guest Lecturer at the occasion, Corps Commander Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Major General Hassan Tafida expressed delight to be part of the event.
Delivering the Inaugural lecture titled: ‘The making of an effective leader and staff officer for the joint operating environment’, noted that JLSOC has contributed to the development of tactical level officers and field observations on staff trained tactical level officers.
Earlier in his remarks, Brigadier General Etuk in his inaugural address disclosed that the College was established in December 2002 with the initial mandate of training Logisticians.
He added that following the expansion of the courses run in the College with the addition of leadership and staff officers courses, the mandate was modified to producing efficient Logisticians and staff-trained officers with requisite leadership skills that are capable of effectively discharging their duties in both joint and combined operations at formations and higher levels using contemporary management concepts and techniques.
General Etuk reiterated that the JLSOC will run for about 23 weeks, and urged the students to plan, manage, and use their time effectively.
While encouraging the students to work in harmony and create room for intellectual dialogue and interactions, the Commandant used the opportunity to caution students on the risk of plagiarism, urging them to be original in their submissions and acknowledge any work they consult to avoid academic fraud, stressing that the College frowns at plagiarism and will take severe action against such acts.
General Etuk concluded by expressing his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja (NAM) for all the support provided to the College while congratulating the students on their nomination to attend the course.
In attendance were Commandants of NA Schools, Commanders and Commanding Officers within Lagos state, Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies of the College, Brigadier General JIB Manjang ably represented by the Acting Director of Management, Leadership and Staff Studies, Colonel S Julius, Director of Administration NACOLM Brigadier General OJ Majebi, Chief Instructors, Members of the Directing Staff and Administrative Staff, student officers amongst others.
