The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), a body of dedicated professional journalists and publishers covering security and allied beats will on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, holds its Bankers’ Virtual Conference.
The theme of the conference is titled: “PREVALENCE OF E-BANKING, CYBERCRIME & DATA SAFETY: CHALLENGES OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS in PRE & POST COVID-19 ERA, and will start at 10am.
In a statement signed by the association’s National President, Oki Samson on Tuesday in Lagos said, ‘Microsoft Team App’ will be the conference platform.
According to him, the VIRTUAL Conference will gather Heads of Banking Institutions, Digital Payments Company’s Manager, Policy analysts, ICT Experts, Intelligence and Cyber Security Experts, Security professionals, Security Journalists and other stakeholders.
They include the Managing Director of Kontz Engineering Limited, Mr. Akin Mustapha, Representatives of Fidelity Bank, Unity Bank among others would be featured.
The conference is set against the backdrop of the recent opportunities and challenges that e-banking has offered Nigeria.
According to Oki, “We recognize that with boundless challenges come boundless opportunities. The advent of e-banking into the Nigerian economic structure, like every other human, has come with its opportunities and challenges”, he reiterated.
While the banking industry has enjoyed an increase in online activity because Nigerians have embraced it, many citizens have not found the experience interesting because their money have grown invisible wings and flew out of their bank accounts fraudulently.
“Almost every day on popular social networking sites like Twitter, you see many people venting their complaints and frustrations by tagging official bank handles.
“Those who don’t have the temerity or knowledge of that avenue have resorted to faith and vowed to return to the old ways of keeping their moneys under their bed, piggy banks, with thrift collectors, and others. This is real!
In extreme cases, some bank officials have been fingered in this foul play as defrauded customers have accused them. The customers claimed that they do not reveal their BVN, ATM passwords, OTP, and other security information to anyone, so the fault must have come from within the bank system.
Questions that often arose are: “What is the bank doing about this?
Does the Nigerian banking structure want to gain three steps and lose four steps because of the failing integrity of bankers? What are the banks doing to fortify their online platforms away from hackers? What reforms are the banks planning to infuse into the world of e-banking? The statement reiterated.
