The President, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), and Wife of the Chief of Army Staff, Mrs. Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, has commissioned some Life-Saving equipment donated to the Accident and Emergency Ward of the Military Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos by NAOWA.
Also, the association undertook the renovation of the Ward in the hospital, which was commissioned by her as part of the activities marking the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Annual Conference 2025.
Earlier, the conference was declared opened by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented by the Vice President Kessim Shettima.
Shortly after the inauguration of the equipment, the NAOWA President undertook a guided tour of the newly renovated Accident and Emergency ward as well as the Pediatrics and Gynaecology departments of the hospital.
Equipment donated included: Medium size oxygen concentrator; Multiparameters patient monitor; Manual suctioning machine; Autoclave sterilizing unit, and Automatic External Defribillator (AED).
These facilities, it was gathered would assist patients in the ward to fast track their recovery process speedily.
According to the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Brig Gen Ebute, he appreciated the generosity of the Mrs. Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, for singling out the hospital for such a world-class equipment.
“She donated some life-saving equipment which will go a long way in impacting the lives of patients. In addition, she inspected the Pediatrics and Gynaecology and Accident and Emergency wards where she empathized and prayed for their quickest recovery. In addition, she made gift and cash donations each of the patient.

Brig Gen Ebute further explained that the equipment will assist the unit to attend to “critically ill patients; know what is happening to them especially the state of their heart – whether it is regular or irregular – their respiratory rate and the concentration of oxygen in the blood.”
Before now, the CMD emphasized, equipment used at the emergency ward used to be conveyed for sterilization at the theatre but with the provision of Autoclave sterilizing unit, we would be able to sterilize those equipment at the Accident and Emergency Ward.
The Military Hospital, Ikoyi, which is one of the Reference Hospital in Nigerian Army, it was gathered, has the capacity to accommodate 10 patients hence the CMD is seeking for the Army’s intervention for expansion to absolve more patients.
“This is a compart hospital and don’t have much space for expansion. At the moment, we can only take about 10 patients. However, We need structural expansion of the facility, and very soon, something will be done,” Brig Gen Ebute stressed.
