
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting teamwork, discipline, and innovation through sports as it kicked off its annual NASENI Games.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, emphasized that “the essence of the games goes beyond winning trophies.”
He noted that the competition fosters discipline, fair play, and mutual respect—values that reflect NASENI’s core principles of excellence and collaboration.
“Through this event, we showcase the NASENI spirit of excellence, teamwork, and innovation,” he added.
The opening day featured thrilling football matches across both male and female categories. In the men’s fixtures, NASENI Headquarters played a goalless draw with PEDI Ilesa, while EMDI Akure triumphed 3–0 over AMTDI Jalingo. SEDI Minna defeated NEEDI Nnewi 3–0, and SOMMEDI recorded a 4–0 victory over NSEL.
In the women’s category, NEDDI Nnewi emerged victorious with a 2–0 win against NASENI HQ Angels.
Special recognitions were also presented to outstanding participants and teams. Mr. Adabayo John of EMDI Akure received the Best Coordinating Subcommittee Member award. ELDI Awka was named Best Kitted Team, while Best Behaved Team went to EMDI Akure. The Best Match Pass Team trophy was awarded to NASENI Headquarters.
The week-long event, which will conclude with a grand closing ceremony on Thursday, October 23, 2025, features eight indoor and outdoor games including football (male and female), volleyball, badminton, chess, scrabble, table tennis, and lawn tennis.
Participating teams represent NASENI’s various institutes, centres, and headquarters, underscoring the Agency’s commitment to fostering unity and healthy competition among its workforce.
