…AS AGENCY RAIDS LAGOS NIGHTCLUB, SEIZES 384.886KG OF ‘LOUD’ AND ARRESTS ORGANISERS
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned nightclub operators and fun seekers across the country against the growing trend of organizing, hosting, or attending so-called “drug parties,” describing the act as a serious criminal offence under Nigerian law.
The warning follows a major operation by NDLEA operatives who raided a drug party held on the night of Saturday, 25th October, into the early hours of Sunday, 26th October, 2025, at Proxy Night Club, located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. Over 100 attendees were arrested, alongside the club owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, and his manager, Joachin Millary.
According to the Agency, any gathering organized for the purpose of consuming, distributing, or abusing illicit substances constitutes an act of criminality punishable under the NDLEA Act.
“In this case, the organizers went as far as producing and circulating flyers openly inviting people to participate in an illegal drug party — an act that amounts to incitement to commit a crime and a direct affront to the nation’s law enforcement capacity,” the statement read.
The Agency expressed concern that Nigeria is already battling a high rate of drug abuse, particularly among youths, adding that such parties not only worsen the crisis but also serve as recruitment grounds for new addicts.
Director, Media and Advocacy of NDLEA, Femi Baba Femi, disclosed that its operatives acted on credible intelligence, deploying undercover agents who conducted surveillance, made controlled purchases of illicit drugs from within the club, and monitored activities between 11 p.m. on Saturday and 3 a.m. on Sunday before executing the raid. The operation led to the recovery of 384.886 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, along with other illicit substances found in the club’s storage area.
While all attendees were profiled, counselled, and released shortly after, in line with global best practices, the two principal suspects — Pretty Mike and Joachin Millary — remain in custody and will face prosecution. NDLEA also confirmed that it will seek the forfeiture of Proxy Night Club to the Federal Government.
The Agency reiterated its resolve to intensify surveillance and enforce the law against all individuals or entities involved in drug-related activities. It further warned property owners, hoteliers, and event centre operators that knowingly allowing their premises to be used for such crimes risk confiscation and permanent forfeiture of their assets.
The NDLEA appealed to parents, community leaders, religious bodies, and patriotic Nigerians to remain vigilant, report suspicious gatherings, and collaborate with the Agency in its ongoing fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
