A 35-year-old Eze Obinna, a male and native of Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo state has been re-arrested after escaping from the Correctional Services Centre after unknown gunmen attacked the facility last April.
It was learnt that operatives of the Command’s Quick Intervention Team (QIT) had on May 17, 2021, swooped on him in his hideout and got him arrested over his involvement in series of kidnap incidents recently.
Spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, SP Ikeokwu Godson Orlando, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect on Monday revealed that since the suspect escaped from prison where he was being remanded, he has since formed a deadlier kidnap gang that has been terrorising Owerri and its environs.
The suspect who was nabbed in Obinze, Owerri West LGA, Imo State, had sometimes in December 2020, arrested by the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping unit for kidnapping a victim.
In that incident, Obinna allegedly, personally transferred the sum of N5,000,000 from a victim’s Bank account to his own account, and later collected the sum of N4,000,000 cash, as ransom from the same victim.
It was gathered that till now, the victim’s Toyota Venza car is yet to be recovered. Besides, during that arrest, three AK 47 rifles with a large number of ammunitions were also recovered from him and his gang.
Based on renewed vigour by the Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro to rid Imo state of crime and criminality, the police has taken the war against violent crime to the den of the hoodlums culminating in the arrest.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner has also ordered the arrest of all his gang members, as well as mop up their operational arms.
Obinna, however, escaped from prison custody on April 5, 2021, after been charged to court.
