The Nigeria Police Force has arrested and repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, who fled his country after being convicted of fraud. The operation was carried out by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, following an international request to locate the fugitive.
Huseyin was convicted earlier this year by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court and sentenced to 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days imprisonment. He reportedly escaped Turkey shortly after the verdict and travelled through parts of the Middle East before entering Nigeria.
In July 2025, INTERPOL NCB Ankara issued a Red Notice seeking the arrest of Huseyin. Acting on the alert, the Nigerian INTERPOL bureau launched discreet, intelligence-driven operations that led to his capture in Abuja.
Authorities said all required extradition procedures were completed in partnership with international law enforcement bodies, enabling his successful repatriation to Istanbul, where he will begin serving his sentence.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the INTERPOL unit for the operation, stressing that Nigeria will not harbour fugitives or convicted persons attempting to evade justice. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to honouring international policing obligations and supporting global efforts against transnational crime.
The operation was announced on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
