The Nigeria Police Force has congratulated a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo (fdc), on his coronation as the traditional ruler of Ihueze-Nnewi Autonomous Communities in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The coronation ceremony, which held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, marked the formal ascension of the former senior police officer to the revered royal stool, an honour the Force described as a reflection of his integrity, leadership credentials and lifetime of service to the nation and his community.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Nigeria Police noted that Nwobodo’s emergence as Igwe underscores the confidence reposed in his wisdom, character and ability to lead, both from his years in public service and his contributions to community development.
Retired DIG Nwobodo joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1984 and served for over three decades in various operational, administrative and leadership roles across the country. He held several positions as Divisional Police Officer (DPO), where he was commended for professionalism and effective leadership.
He also served as Director of Courses at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, where he played a key role in the training and mentorship of police officers, before rising to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police. At the apex of his career, he headed the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, contributing significantly to the advancement of technology-driven policing and administrative reforms within the Force.
Nwobodo retired meritoriously from the Nigeria Police Force on August 12, 2019, leaving behind what the Force described as a legacy of discipline, dedication and institutional impact.
Reacting to his coronation, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, expressed confidence that the new monarch would deploy his vast experience in leadership, governance and conflict management in promoting peace, unity and sustainable development within Ihueze-Nnewi Autonomous Communities.
The Police leadership described his transition from national service to traditional leadership as a continuation of his lifelong commitment to service, now focused on cultural preservation and grassroots development.
