Nigerian Navy’s determination to rid Nigeria’s maritime domain of all nefarious elements, personnel of the force have arrested two suspects after carrying out a raid at pirates’ and kidnappers’ camp at Fununu Community in Brass local government area of Bayelsa state.

The Naval personnel under the auspices of Operation DELTA SANITY II, had on Saturday, 11th January, 2025 made the arrest and seizures.

Disclosing this in Abuja on Tuesday, the Director of Information (DINFO), Nigerian Navy, Commodore Aiyuwor Adams-Aliu said the suspected pirates/kidnappers, use the camp as a hideout to commit heinous acts.

Before the arrest, they engaged personnel in a gun duel for over 30 minutes before they succumbed to superior fire power of the Naval personnel.

While many criminals fled with gunshot injuries, two suspects (a male and a female) were arrested.

Items recovered from them included one AK-56 assault rifle; three locally fabricated guns; five pump-action guns; one foreign double-barrel gun; 68 rounds of 7.62/39mm ammunition.

Cdre Adams-Aliu also added that six round of 7.62/51mm NATO version ammunition; 25 shotgun cartridges; four empty AK rifle magazines; one national ID card; one Monie Point debit card; one MTB SIM card; one Itel phone; one Infinix smartphone; N11,500 cash; one chainsaw engine; one chainsaw machine; one hand saw and one Airtel pack without SIM.

As a result, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, has, once again, reiterated that NN would continue to work assiduously to eradicate criminal activity in Nigeria’s maritime space.
