The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has joined stakeholders in Zamfara State for a three-day engagement on the Draft Zamfara Digital Literacy Framework, a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting inclusion, skills development, and innovation across the state.
The programme was officially flagged off by Governor Dauda Lawal Dare, who described the framework as a significant step towards building a digitally inclusive Zamfara. He commended NITDA’s pivotal role in guiding and supporting the state in the development of its framework.
Representing the NITDA Director General, Dr. Ahmed Tambuwal, Acting Director of the Digital Literacy and Capacity Building Department, emphasised the importance of localising digital literacy strategies. He noted that a state-specific framework enables context-sensitive approaches, including multilingual content, culturally relevant delivery models, and community-driven participation.
“By tailoring digital literacy interventions to local realities, Zamfara is setting a model for other states to follow,” Tambuwal said.
Zamfara has become the first state in Nigeria to draft a Digital Literacy Framework aligned with the national agenda of inclusivity, particularly targeting underserved populations such as women, rural communities, persons with disabilities, and youth.
The initiative underscores NITDA’s continued support for sub-national governments in achieving Nigeria’s broader goal of bridging digital divides and empowering citizens through technology.
