A one time Chief Security Officer with the former Diamond Bank and now the Head of Facilities Unit at the Access Bank headquarters, Lagos; Mayor Felix Amah Nnachi has been conferred with an honorary doctorate degree in Security Management by Triune University, Brooklyn, United States of America.
The award of the doctorate which took place recently at the Lagos State University (LASU) auditorium and witnessed by some stakeholders in the academia was given to the security chieftain after a pain-staking screening protocol by the University Council.
He was among the few shortlisted by the University for the honour across a wide spectrum of security practitioners selected from various countries through sourcing of their credentials via the internet and other means. Nnachi’s details were reportedly obtained from LinkedIn.
According to him, he only got to know about the short listing when some consultants who represent the University in Africa namely Dr. Maurice Odiete and Dr. Festus Ibiam Uko called at different times to inform him. In his words, “it was a surprise to me and also a sign that in this global village of internet, we need to be careful and realize that people are watching what we do. I thank God, I was able to pass through the tough screening protocol of the University Council which found me worthy of the award.”
Nnachi, who holds a Master’s degree in Industrial and Labour Relations from the Lagos State University, Ojo is an experienced security professional with demonstrated history of 15 years has of service in the Nigeria Police Force and not less than 20 years as Chief Security Officer in various sectors at one time or the other. The sectors include financial, aviation and energy. He is skilled in human and material assets protection and management with hands-on in physical & electronic security systems strategy design and implementation, security policy formulation and enforcement, civil & armed guard force management, third party vendor management and government law enforcement regulatory relations.
The security chieftain whose academic qualifications include a Higher National Diploma from the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from Delta State University, Abraka has over the years at various times and places held different positions. These include Aero Contractors Limited where he served as the Chief Security Officer, ensuring the enforcement of aviation security standards to ensure safety of passengers and the company’s human & material assets.
He also worked with Citizens International Bank Limited, Fidelity Bank, Nigeria Stock Exchange, Ikeja Electric (Sahara Group) and Diamond Bank as Chief Security Officer at different times. During his services, he was responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the various security related policies of the organizations.
Prior to his foray into the private sector, Nnachi who served for no less than 15 years in the Nigeria Police Force was exposed to various duties which included guarding, prevention and detection of crime, arrest, investigation and general administrative duties. In his early years in the Force, he had the singular privilege of serving as security aide to a former governor of Eastern Region, Dr. Francis Akanu Ibiam.
With strong determination to make a mark in the security industry, Nnachi had attended various international and local courses and conferences. These include International Conference for Police & Law Enforcement executive in Toronto, Canada in May, 2013. In June, 2012 he was in San Antonio, Texas, United States of America for Assets Protection Course 111. It was a functional management course. Earlier in May of same year, he was at Hilton Quebec, Canada for Executive Leadership Development for Police & Law Enforcement executives.
In May 2011, Nnachi was at Orlando Florida in United States to attend the 57th ASIS International Annual seminar and exhibit conference. Within the same month, he was in Chicago, United States for the International Conference of Chiefs of Police and also Assets Protection Course 11 on Practice Application in Charleston, South Carolina, United States.
His deep interest in anything security has also led him to attending Assets Protection Course 1 on Concepts and Methods in San Francisco, Florida USA. In 2010, he was at NEC Birmingham in United Kingdom for the IFSEC 2010 International Fire & Security Conference. He had earlier in 2009 attended that year’s edition of the conference in Birmingham.
Besides his participation in the aforementioned international courses, Dr. Felix Amah Nnachi has over the years participated in many management courses locally which include Data Mastery Course, Gift Work Training for managers, Global Cyber security conference by COMSEC Israel, Anti- money Laundering, Project Management, Personal Finance Planning, Fraud Detective Course 6/97 and many others.
Professionally, Nnachi belongs to many groups among which are Association of Heads of Security of Banks & Other Financial Institutions, ASIS International, International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO), International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Association of Industrial Security & Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON), Nigeria Institute of Industrial Security (NIIS), International Facility Management Association (IFMA).
Dr. Nnachi has also received several awards in recognition of his professionalism and commitment. In November, 2018 he was honoured by the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria as the Bank CSO of the Year. Earlier same 2018, he was made a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Industrial Security.
In 2011, he bagged the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Award for ISO 27001 Bank Certification while in 2010 he was honoured with Distinguished Security Service Award by NIIS.
Dr. Nnachi’s skills as a time tested security practitioner in both public and private sector cut across various areas which include the ability to develop, design, manage and implement an integrated security management system in line with business operations. He also has the ability to communicate effectively and secure management and employees buy-in of security programme and processes.
