The Chief Executive Officer, Medallion Communications Limited, Engr. Ikechukwu Nnamani has been elected the new National President of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON).
His victory as the new ATCON leader took place at the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and National Executive Council Elections held in Lagos on Thursday. Other elected officers who will be steering the wheel of leadership with Engr Nnamani for the next two years (2021-2022) are;

- Wole Abu – Publicity Secretary
- Mrs. Aderonke Adeyegbe – Coordinator, Consulting
- Mr. Wale Owoeye – Coordinator, Equipment Dealers
- Mr. Dapo Akanbi – Coordinator, Value Added Service
- Mr. Abayomi Adebanjo – Coordinator, Infrastructure Service Providers.
In his post election speech, Nnamani unfolded his agenda for the association and the telecom industry declaring that he would focus on the association’s advocacy towards the deployment of infrastructure across the country which will ultimately, lead to ubiquitous services for Nigerians, create enabling environment for further growth of the telecom industry and pursuit of Telecom financing.
Engr Nnamani who was the First Vice President of the association during 2018/2020 administration, has a core vision of bridging the digital divide between nations and integrates technologies for practical solutions.
He further reiterated that, the new National Executive Council (NEC) will focus on three key areas which include driving increased membership; making sure members of the association are well represented in all levels especially in areas where they have challenges with government agencies, policies and regulators.
He said, “It is easier when members come through the association to address issues affecting them than when they go alone “because you suddenly notice you are not the only one facing same challenge. When the regulator sees that more than one entity is facing same challenge, they take it more serious than when they feel it’s isolated to one company.”
“The other area I intend to pursue also, is telecom financing. A lot of our members have complained about challenges in accessing the right means of equity or even forex to those that requires importation of technical equipment and infrastructure. So, my administration will be engaging with the relevant government agencies to put an end to such challenges.”
Bearing in mind that Medallion Communications Limited focuses on implementing the core network infrastructure that promotes, develops, and distributes local contents and ensuring high quality of service is delivered to the subscribers at an affordable price, he pledged that under his leadership, the Medallion datacenter in Lagos is rated the top most interconnected facility in the West African sub-region being the number one peering point for the region and boosting all submarine cables in the region, long distance providers, metro fiber providers, mobile services providers, fixed services providers, OTT providers, Internet Exchange, VAS providers, and global Tier1 service providers, amongst others.

It is the world’s first integrated photonic wavelength converter chip. It guarantees non-blocking of traffic flow in telecommunication networks.
