…SHIP TO REINFORCE SECURITY IN THE GULF OF GUINEA – FOC WEST
NNS KADA has made history as the Nigerian Navy warship to visit Kenya when she paid a port call to Mombasa Port on Saturday, April 16, 2022.
Disclosing this in Abuja on Thursday in a statement signed by Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff, said that the call was part of scheduled port calls on her homeward voyage to Nigeria.
This came just after the ship had paid a similar historic visit to Port of Al Duqum, Oman from 5-7 April 2022.
In a goodwill message to the ship crew of NNS KADA, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Ambassador Yusuf Yunusa who was represented by Dr. John Ahmadu the Political Affairs Officer, Nigeria High Commission Kenya, stated that the visit of the Landing Ship Tank to Kenya will further strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
The High Commissioner stated that the induction of NNS KADA will bolster the Federal Government’s effort in ensuring adequate maritime security in Nigeria and the West African Sub-Region.
In his remarks, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Yakubu Wambai who represented the Chief of Naval Staff during the reception of the ship at Mombasa, pointed out that the visit will enhance collaborative efforts between the Nigerian and Kenyan navies.
Rear Admiral Wambai added that the induction of NNS KADA into the Nigerian Navy will reinforce security in the Gulf of Guinea and boost the Afrocentric operation mechanism in the region.
It would be recalled that NNS KADA left the United Arab Emirates on Friday, 1 April 2022 and she is expected to arrive in Nigeria on 27 May 2022.
