…ALLEGATION MALICIOUS, HANDIWORK OF CRIMINALS – ARMY, POLICE
By Okosun Dennis
The Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police on Sunday said that an online report that men of both forces have been engaged in an altercation leading to a gun duel was false and a calculated attempt by the enemy of progress to pitch both forces against each other.
In a joint statement signed by the spokespersons of the Imo State Command, CSP Michael Abattam and Captain Joseph Abba Akubo of 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Imo state admonished the general public to disregard the allegation “as a false report”.
It said that the story on some online media platforms of a gun duel between the personnel of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police in Owerri was false.
“The malicious and falsely fabricated report is the handwork of criminals who intend to create confusion and give an impression of a lack of synergy amongst the security agencies in Imo State.
“The law enforcement and security agencies in Imo State will continue to synergise and bring to book all criminals and halt their activities in the State.
“No stone will be left unturned in ensuring that law-abiding citizens live in a conducive environment and carry out their daily routine without fear or intimidation by miscreants who have constituted themselves into a nuisance and bent on causing instability in the state.
“We, therefore, call on all law-abiding citizens to ignore the illegal Monday sit at the home call by the proscribed and irredentist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its affiliate criminal group Eastern Security Network (ESN) whose members have continuously used falsehood and threat on law-abiding citizens.”
They added that all security agencies in the state would continue to discharge their Constitutional mandate and ensure lives and properties are well protected.
