The Federal Road Safety Corps Lagos Sector Command has confirmed the death of a female adult in an accident on Otedola bridge while 18 others were seriously injured in a road traffic crash near Mobil filling station close on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
The crash which claimed the life of one person involved two vehicles; White Mazda Bus with reg number KJA 364 YA and a Tanker whose details wasn’t available.
The crash was a result of speeding and distracted driving (lack of concentration by the driver). The commercial bus with 18 passengers as against the stipulated 14 passengers was said to have run into the moving tanker with speed close to Otedola bridge outwards Lagos leaving one adult female dead and 18 others injured.
The family of the deceased were contacted and they came for the corpse immediately while some of the victims were taken to Lagos State Emergency Centre Ojota and others decided to leave and take care of themselves.
The Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, therefore, commiserates with the family of the deceased and wishes others a speedy recovery.
He has also expressed his concerns about avoidable death, especially on the road due to speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, distracted driving (use of phone while driving) and other crash-causing offenses.
He, therefore, advised all motorists and road users to take defensive driving seriously because only the living can celebrate.
He finally advised commercial drivers who are yet to install the speed limit device in their vehicles to do so promptly as the device will help regulate excessive speed while driving and in turn save them from speed-related crashes.
Items recovered from the crash scene has been returned to their rightful owners.
