The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, Eweka Douglas Okoro, has presented a scorecard of achievements of the Command in the Badagry division.
In a statement signed by the Commandant and exclusively obtained by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), he commended the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for his transparent leadership and visionary directives, which led to the efforts and subsequent operational achievements.
He noted that “117 yellow kegs of 25 litres each and some empty kegs, suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), attempted to be siphoned by suspected vandals” were arrested in Badagry.
Okoro further noted that the Corps would build on the achievements through constant and periodic combing of vulnerable areas by criminals while it has also launched a search for as many that escaped their clutches.
The statement in details read, “In line with your very clear directive and charge sir, Commandant General (CG) Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to stem the tide of insecurity and criminality in the country, which include; oil pipeline vandalism, and vandalism of other critical national assets and infrastructure et ce tera, the Lagos State Command, through its operatives in the Badagry Division, has immediately swung into action to arrest suspected one hundred and seventeen (117) yellow kegs of 25litres each and some empty kegs, suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), attempted to be siphoned by suspected vandals, today, in Badagry, Lagos.
“The Lagos State Command through its anti-vandal and marine team, in Badagry Division, led by the Divisional Officer, CSC Akinyemi Rasheed Ayodeji, 4th March 2022, at about 02:15hrs (wee hours), arrested one hundred and seventeen (117) yellow kegs of 25litres each and some empty kegs, suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), discovered at Alakoto – Meji, which was also attempted to be siphoned by suspected vandals to the Republic of Benin, via a boat.
“The dastardly act of the suspected vandals was forestalled as a result of the professionalism of the Command’s operatives. The criminal-minded vandals on sighting our operatives, who intercepted them through credible intelligence, also took to their heels, in a bid to avoid arrest.
“The Command’s operatives, who intercepted the economic sabotage of these suspected criminals also acted professionally, in a bid to avoid oil explosions as a result of the evil activities of the suspected vandals.
“The petroleum products, which was initially moved to the Badagry Division, in Ibereko, have also been ordered to be moved to the Command’s Headquarters, in Alausa – Ikeja, Lagos, for further investigation to be carried out.
“We have also resolved to continue to comb all black spots in Lagos State, in connection with our mandates and functions, in a bid to put an end to the activities of oil pipeline vandalism in Lagos State.
However, “the Command has also immediately launched a searchlight on the suspected fleeing vandals, in a bid to deter others, who may be interested in such economic sabotage from involving in such.”
