The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, Mr. Isidore Chukwudi Chikere has pledged to work assiduously with other security agencies towards improving security around the Anambra International Cargo Airport.
Disclosing this in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Okadigbo Edwin, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, Comdt. Chikere who received in audience the Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Mrs. Patricia Igwebuike, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport (AICPA), Mr. Martins Nwafor at the State Command Headquarters Awka, commended the Airport Management for the visit describing it as a good initiative in managing security around the airport.
Comdt. Chikere said that the protection of critical assets and infrastructure is very vital to the existence of every nation globally and emphasized the urgent need for safeguarding these assets.
“Security is a collective responsibility requiring all stakeholders to work closely. Considering the Critical nature of the Airport, there is a need therefore for all to close all gaps without giving room for security lapses around the airport.
“NSCDC as a lead agency statutorily responsible for the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure will sustain the existing level of security alertness at the airport.
“The critical nature of these assets and infrastructure underscores the need to conduct periodic reviews, and risk assessments to ensure their protection and resilience,” he said.
Earlier, Mr. Nwafor Martins said he embarked on the visit to thank the command for providing its services to the Airport and to brainstorm on proactive measures and good initiatives to improve the existing security arrangements at the airport.
Contributing, Mrs. Patricia Igwebuike acknowledged the role of NSCDC at the airport since its establishment and pledged to collaborate more with the Corps to sustain the level of security required at the airport.
