The Anambra State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reunited a 13-year-old boy, Goodluck Onwe, with his family following the command’s intervention.
The little boy was seen wandering the streets of Abakaliki before he was rescued on the 4th of February, 2024 about 1300hrs by operatives of NSCDC Ebonyi State Command.
Investigation revealed that the said boy stayed with a relative in Abakaliki but ran away from home with the intent to return to his parents who reside at Peter Okonkwo Street Aguleri, Anambra East LGA, Anambra State.
Subsequently, NSCDC Anambra State Command was contacted by Ebonyi State Command to trace the origin and parents of the Child.
In response, the Command made a frantic effort to locate his parents for identification and collection. After a detailed verification process, the boy was handed over to Mr. Onwe Sabastine his father.
Commenting on the circumstances surrounding the boy’s deviant behaviour, the State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, Anambra State Command, Olatunde Maku advised parents/guardians not to practice an authoritarian, permissive and neglectful style of parenting but rather adopt parenting of a child with love and understanding.
“Parenting is not an easy job, it involves responsibilities that seem to change every day. The daily tasks and roles one performs as a parent are bound to change as the child gets older.
“Parents should adapt the parenting of a child with love and understanding, without unnecessary display of authority over their children which instills fear in them to always run away from home,” he said.
Deputy Commandant, Reuben Dennis, the Head of the investigation and intelligence Department, after interviewing the boy urged parents/ guardians to be vigilant and monitor the movement of their children as well as the people they associate with in order not to fall victim to abduction, trafficking, kidnapping and other emerging social vices.
