The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has inaugurated a Special Bodyguard and VIP Protection Unit, with a charge to its operatives to uphold the highest standards of professionalism as they assume their new responsibilities.
The Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, ofr, gave the directive during the passing-out ceremony of 501 personnel drawn from state commands and formations nationwide. The ceremony, held at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja, marked the completion of an intensive proficiency training programme.
Represented by the Assistant Commandant General in charge of Agro Rangers, ACG Augustine Obiekwe, the CG said the new unit is tasked with providing enhanced security for individuals considered at elevated risk due to their status, roles, or influence. He emphasized that the primary mandate of the unit is to minimize threats to VIPs without disrupting their daily engagements or compromising their privacy.

In his remarks, ACG David Abi, the head of Training and Manpower Development, urged the new operatives to apply the skills acquired during their training, noting that the Corps must continually meet national expectations. He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for entrusting the NSCDC with critical responsibilities in VIP protection.
Abi commended the Commandant General for his strategic leadership, noting that the establishment of the unit aligns with the President’s vision to strengthen the Corps for improved service delivery. He explained that the new unit was created to ensure effective coordination, command, control, and training of personnel in line with global best practices.
The newly established unit will be headed by Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Donald Anyor, who was noted for his significant contributions to the development of the unit’s training manuals.
The ceremony was formally announced in a statement issued by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, CSC Babawale Zaid Afolabi.
