The Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed has advised Account Officers in the Scheme to ensure proper documentation of all financial transactions.
He said they are also expected to guard their login details and uphold the virtue of dedication, diligence and higher responsibility.
General Ahmed stated this today in his address at the 2023 Finance and Accounts Officers’ Workshop with the theme; “Achieving Accountability and Transparency in Public Sector Accounting Through Proper Documentation”, held in Abuja.
He added that, in line with one of his administration’s policy thrusts, the Scheme would continue to provide conducive environments in the discharge of their official responsibilities.
In a statement by the NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, the Director General, who was represented at the workshop by the Director, Ventures Management Department, Prince Mohammed Momoh urged the workshop participants to rededicate themselves to achieve excellence in the discharge of their duties.
In his address, the Acting Director, Finance and Accounts, Mr. Batan Akut said proper accountability cannot be overemphasized because it is pivotal to foster trust and credibility in public sector accounting.
He stated further that documentation not only upholds ethical standards but also promotes responsible governance.
“Through meticulous record keeping, the public gains insight into how funds are allocated and utilized, fostering confidence in the administration’s stewardship.
Transparency in documenting financial activities bolsters accountability, prevents mismanagement, corruption and ultimately ensures that public resources are judiciously utilized for the collective welfare and development of the society”, Akut said.
