Beneficiaries of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Presidential Honours Award for the 2020–2023 service years have distanced themselves from a report claiming that the Federal Government failed to fulfil its promise of automatic employment to them.
The awardees, in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, said a March 5 publication by SaharaReporters did not represent the collective position of the beneficiaries.
They explained that they have been engaging with officials of the Federal Civil Service on the implementation of the employment directive approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to them, their interactions and follow-ups with relevant government authorities indicate that the process is ongoing and has reached an advanced stage.
The beneficiaries also said they were not aware of any individual or group authorised to speak to the media on their behalf regarding the matter, stressing that those quoted in the report did not represent the award recipients.
“These are malicious individuals trying to undermine our collective efforts as a group and damage the image of President Tinubu,” the statement said.
While acknowledging that administrative procedures within government institutions may take time, the awardees noted that they appreciate the cooperation of officials handling the process and expressed confidence that the issuance of their appointment letters would soon be concluded.
They also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and President Tinubu for recognising their service to the country through the Presidential Honours Award and the opportunities attached to it.
The awardees further urged media organisations to avoid misrepresenting their position and to seek clarification from appropriate representatives before publishing reports on the matter.
