The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered two pump-action rifles in a decisive operation aimed at curbing violent crime in the state.

The suspect, identified as Adenekan Segun, popularly known as “Expensive,” was arrested by operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) following credible intelligence.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, in a statement disclosed that on Sunday, December 14, 2025, actionable intelligence revealed that the suspect was unlawfully in possession of pump-action firearms. He was reportedly seen brandishing the weapons during a minor disagreement, raising alarm within the community.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, operatives moved in and apprehended the suspect, leading to the recovery of two pump-action rifles. The arrest, according to the Command, underscores its proactive and intelligence-led approach to tackling armed robbery and the illegal possession of firearms.

Investigations are currently ongoing to trace the source of the recovered weapons and determine the suspect’s possible links to other criminal activities. The police confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the operatives for their prompt response, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on armed robbery and all forms of violent crime. He assured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to sustaining peace and security across the state.

The police also urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information that can help prevent crime.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities or security concerns through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines: Gateway Shield (Toll-Free) on 0800 000 9111, or via 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.
