Second Rainbow area along Oshodi- Mile 2 express way was on Tuesday turned into wrestlemania zone as commercial motorcyclists (Okada Riders) attacked Lagos State Taskforce officials, destructing their vehicle and injuring officers.
The taskforce had accused Okada riders of turning into nuisance in the area based on series of complaints from the public about their activities, using their bikes to rob them of their valuables while plying restricted routes which went out to the area for Enforcement.
Head, Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Task Force, Adebayo Taofiq said that after impounding about 74 Okada caught plying one-way and those operating on highway, the riders mobilised themselves and attacked officers of the Agency.
Explaining, “They damaged beyond repair two of our vehicles with one of our truck. A Paramilitary officer attached to the Agency, identified as Ganiyu Mustapha was wounded with broken bottles and cutlass because he mistakenly ran into the mob.
“Since the #EndSARS protest, every motorists including Okada riders operates with impunity thereby causing serious traffic gridlock across the State.
“We had a stakeholders meeting with their Okada leaders and they made us to understand that all those flagrantly disobeying the laws are not responsible to any associations in Lagos.”
Adebayo, however, appealed to all and sundry to “join hands together to salvage the State from the hands of these notorious criminals who use Okada to perpetuate evil” and bring sanity to the state so that the public would have uninterrupted movement with ease.
