One person was shot dead on Tuesday while four others were abducted and one woman wounded as gunmen attacked the house of the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Gamji, Zamfara state.
The Zamfara Police Command spokesperson, SP Mohammed Shehu confirmed the attack on Tuesday, saying that the former Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammad Bello Dankande Gamji was attacked about 0500hrs in his Gamji home town of Bakura LGA.
Among those abducted were Alhaji Gamji’s two children; and two NSCDC officers on guard duty in the house while one person was shot dead and a woman wounded in the process.
It was learnt that the house was besieged by heavily armed gunmen who shot sporadically during the attack.
At the moment, it was disclosed that the Command has already deployed armed and plain operatives who immediately embarked in search and rescue operations with a view to rescuing the kidnapped victims and apprehend the assailants.
The Command further assured the former Commissioner and the people of the state that the Command is doing everything possible to get the abductees released back home as was done recently where six kidnapped victims including two district heads of Basasa and Ruwan Gizo in Talata Mafara and Bakura LGAs were rescued safely by the Police.
The Command, however, appealed to members of the public to avoid confronting gunmen during such invasion but report the incident on time to the police or any security agency nearest to them for prompt action.
So Shehu further added that normalcy has been restored in the area while the Command would update members of the public on any development as investigations continue.
