To enhance students’ understanding of Basic Science and Technology, and current affairs in Nigeria, the Ola Olufunmilayo Foundation (OOF) has partnered with Odogbolu Local Government Education Authority to organize a quiz competition for primary schools in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to the organizers, the competition recognizes education as an instrument of economic empowerment and national development, which collaborates with one of the main objectives of the Ola Olufunmilayo Foundation as an organization that places high value on children’s education.
OOF identifies education as a national goal to acquire appropriate skills, mental, physical, and social abilities, and competence as equipment for the individual to live and contribute to the development of society.
The OOF Quiz Competition started at the preliminary stages with 32 primary schools and climaxed to the grand finale with 10 schools where the overall best three winners and schools were rewarded with cash donations.
Speaking, the Founder and Executive Director of OOF, Hon. Ola Olufunmilayo, said the organization considers the competition as a development process and encouragement of excellence amongst primary school students who are the future leaders of this great nation.
She stated that OOF’s decision to initiate the annual competition, a part of her Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), in furtherance of its quest to touch the lives of Nigerians in positive ways.
On his part, the Executive Secretary of Odogbolu Local Government Education Authority, Giwa Saka Wasiu Adekoya, described the quiz competition as a long-lasting initiative to promote intellectual development through healthy academic competition among primary school students and geared to boost their self-confidence.
While addressing the August gathering, the Chief Education Officer, Alhaja Rasaki said “The competition spurs children to study harder and live up to expectations in their academics. It helps to raise the standards of education in Odogbolu State Constituency. She described the initiative as laudable and highly competitive while urging OOF to sustain the competition as it builds the students academically to pass their internal and external examinations without stress.”
Furthermore, the objective of the Ola Olufunmilayo Quiz Competition is to enhance students’ understanding of Science, Yoruba, Basic Science & Technology, and Social Science Subjects including current affairs in Nigeria, and to provide a platform for teachers and students of various schools to exchange ideas and learning experience as well as groom future leaders.
The participating schools rigorously went through five rounds of question-and-answer segments and at the end of it all, the overall best three schools were:
The Winner: Moslem Primary School, Imodi
1st Runner-up: AUD Primary School, Ayepe
2nd Runner-up: ST! Peter Anglican Primary School, Imosa
*They were handsomely rewarded with cash donations of Five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000) for the winner while the 1st & 2nd runners-up will go home with three hundred thousand Naira (N300,000) and two hundred thousand Naira (N200,000) respectively.
Finally, this quiz competition was initiated in tandem with the popular parlance that says, “Early childhood development is an investment for life. Increased investment in children today builds a better educated, prosperous, and peaceful citizenry tomorrow. Children with the right kind of education grow up to meet the cognitive, social, emotional and physical needs, become productive adults needed for the socio-economic development of their country “.
This is why the OOF example of promoting educational development has met with huge commendation across the state and even beyond.
Indeed, OOF is on a tripod stand to ensure a brighter, more successful, and fulfilled life for today’s children.
