As the decimation of the remnants of terrorists from the theatre continued, Operation FIRE BALL under Operation LAFIYA DOLE has neutralised members of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Province (ISWAP).
It was learnt that on October 25, 2020, BokoHaram/ISWAP attacked the well-fortified Army Super Camp at Damboa under 25 Brigade in Sector 2. According to the Acting Director Defence Media Operations (DMO), Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko said the terrorists met their waterloo as they were pounded with superior fire power and additional fire support from the Air Task Force.
“The criminals withdrew in rout as they could not withstand the well organised and determined soldiers during the encounter. The Boko Haram terrorists suffered severe casualties as 22 terrorists were killed while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
However, two Gun trucks were destroyed, One NSV Anti-Aircraft Gun, two Rocket Propelled Grenade Tubes, four PKT Machine guns, One General Purpose Machine Gun, One Browning Machine Gun, 12 Ak 47 Rifles, One AK 74 Rifle were recovered.
Other recovered items included: One RPG 7 bomb, 116 Rounds of 7.62mm NATO and two Hand grenades were recovered from the terrorists.
During the attack, few soldiers were wounded in action and have since been evacuated and receiving medical treatment.
For their resilience, doggedness, the troops of Operation Fire Ball under operation LAFIYA DOLE were commended for their commitment exhibited since the beginning of Operation FIRE BALL.
The military however assured that the entire North East would be finally routed of the remnants of Boko Haram Terrorists/ISWAP criminals from their enclaves in this zone.
