…AS ZONE E MEMBERS STATE PLEDGE TO SUSTAIN GAINS
After five days of intense exercises during Operation Safe Domain III, activities were rounded off on Friday, 9th August 2024, at the Naval Base Jetty in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
The exercise was aimed at securing the maritime domain and to combat maritime threats in Zone E member states.
Commodore Aniedi Aniedu Ibok, Director of the Multinational Maritime Coordination Center, highlighted the operation’s achievements and emphasized the importance of harmonizing communication systems and involving Maritime Operational Centers (MOCs) in future operations.
He announced plans for a conference to enhance interoperability among operators.
Captain I. Udoessien, Commanding Officer of DB ABUJA, noted the operation’s overall success despite communication challenges and technical disruptions, recommending continued investment in advanced surveillance technology, strengthening communication infrastructure, and regular joint exercises to improve maritime security.
The operation showcased the effective utilization of assets, platforms, and personnel from participating nations: DB ABUJA, NNS KANO, BNS ALIBORI, and TNS AGOU conducting various maritime operations.
Key lessons learned included the importance of enhanced coordination, real-time intelligence, and early planning.
The ceremony concluded with gift presentations and group photographs, highlighting the operation’s success.
