OPS FASAN YAMMA GETS CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa has commended troops of Sector 2 Operation FASAN YAMMA (OPFY) for their dedication, sacrifice and professionalism in combating security challenges in the Northwest region.

The commendation was made during the Defence Headquarters Department of Civil-Military Relations Sensitization on Gender-Based Violence/Human Rights and Professional Conduct of Troops in Operations lecture, held at the Headquarters 8 Division Auditorium, Sokoto as part of the scheduled visit to OPFY.

The CDS, who was represented by the Chief of Defence Civil-Military Relations, Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole said troops commitment to duty reflects the highest ideals of the Armed Forces and the enduring spirit of service to the nation.

He urged the troops to remain vigilant and committed to civil-military relations at all levels, stressing the need to abide by necessary regulations at all times.

“Winning the hearts and minds is not a mere slogan, but rather a strategic imperative, which requires us to engage positively with local populations,” he said.

The CDS emphasised the need for unity among security services, strong synergy and a bond with the host communities. He applauded the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector OPFY, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, for his command and leadership style.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the GOC expressed gratitude for the recognition, charging the troops to remain conscious of their responsibility to protect the vulnerable, uphold human dignity and serve as a force for stability.

Major General Ajose appreciated the CDS for his visionary leadership and continuous efforts to enhance the morale and operational capacity of the Armed Forces, particularly in OPFY.

The visit also witnessed a medical outreach and football competition at Gidan Gabas Community, Sokoto, aimed at enhancing civil-military relations with the host communities.
