A joint operation by the Command’s Quick Response Team, Ikeduru Police Division, on June 2, 2021, has led to the arrest of one Chukwumakpa Henry, 32 years old suspected to be one of the arsonists of Orji Police Station, Owerri.
The suspect who was arrested in his hideout about 9 am is a native of Iho in Ikeduru Local Government Area but a resident at the Orji area, Owerri.
The suspect is alleged to have participated in the attack on Orji Police Station on May 25, 2021 and other heinous crimes. He confessed to the commission of the offence and other violent crimes in the recent past adding that he is a member of the criminal gang masquerading as unknown gunmen.
However, some grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine were recovered from him even though he has confessed dealings in illicit and hard drugs as a means of subsistence.
The investigation is ongoing as efforts are being intensified to arrest other gang members and recover their firearms. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, has commended the efforts of the teams in living up to the constitutional responsibility of the Police in securing the lives and property of the citizens.
This is also in line with the mission of the Commissioner of Police in ensuring that Imo State remains one of the safer states in Nigeria and Africa. The suspect will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
