Lekki Atlantic Garden’s Secretariat, Alabeko, Ajah was agog on Monday, 1st January 2024 as His Excellency, Ambassador Dr. Jonathan Ojadah feted the community people in a lavish New Year Celebration that was marked with free medical outreach for children and the old with drugs.
The medical rhapsody was part of his humanitarian gesture and to cushion the effects of the harsh economic realities on the citizens.
Ojadah, who is the Global President, United International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC), treated over 100 residents as they were screened for Human Immune Virus (HIV); PCV and Hepatitis B; Malaria, Hypertension/Blood Pressure and Sugar/Diabetes. In addition, drugs were administered according to the doctor’s prescription.
In his remarks, Amb. Ojadah explained his passion and desire to assist people, especially in his community to have access to quality healthcare delivery, noting that if his father had such exposure to good medical needs, he might not have died at the time he did.
“Since then, I made up my mind to provide medical assistance to people. Health is wealth. It pains me so much that my father isn’t alive to witness this and I hadn’t the money to take care of him at the time he died. I don’t want what happened to my father to happen to anybody hence I have taken up the challenge to render free medical assistance to my immediate community.
“I’ve always wanted to assist and extend medical assistance to my neighbours. This is my home hence I liked to start from home. This is my personal decision and sponsored from my purse. It is a privilege for me to do this and I call on others with good financial resources to do the same or collaborate with me to do more subsequently and give back to the society.
“I thank the Executive Committee of Alabeko for their corporation. I also thank all who have contributed to ensure this programme done here is publicised in the media space. I thank the Governor of Lagos State, Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu and every other contributor to this programme,” Dr Jonathan Ojadah reiterated.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with our correspondent expressed satisfaction with the healthcare received from the teams of doctors and drugs dispensed by the pharmacists.
Mrs Deborah Chris, who was overwhelmed with joy, explained with contentment that the quality of medical care received from the team was top-notch.
“My baby has been having a cough and wasn’t eating well. I’ve seen the doctor and they prescribed drugs and had them served to me free of charge. I and my family are most grateful to Ambassador Ojadah, considering that the buying of drugs has skyrocketed.
“People can’t afford to go to hospital nowadays but he made consultation and drugs free in our community. We can only wish him well and pray for more of such assistance to continue as it would assist us a great deal medically.”
Also speaking with our correspondent, Miss Zainab Salami, noted that the generosity displayed by Ambassador Ojadah “to have provided this quality medical services, food, drinks and other palliatives to the community people” will remain indelible in our hearts.
“We need more of this kind gesture because very many people do not have the financial power to go to public hospitals not to talk of buying drugs in the pharmacy.”
To Mr Emmanuel Ogbanje, “God will provide for him to sustain and continue to render this laudable programme to the Alabeko community. This is commendable, especially happening on a new year day.”
Earlier, the event started with aerobics in the morning at the Secretariat with a physical fitness expert taking some residents through sundry exercises to keep them fit while music bellowed from speakers that kept them activated throughout the exercises.
Other side attractions were palliatives shared with some participants and the after-party at the residence of Ambassador Jonathan Ojadah with a live band to drive home a pleasurable, unforgettable evening of dance and jollification.
