To strengthen operations and enhance the Ozioma Okoro Caring Hands Foundation (OOCHF), the management has launched its website: https://oziomaokorocaringhandsfoundation.org/
Speaking with PEOPLE AND POWER MAGAZINE at the unveiling of the website this week, the Founder/President of Ozioma Okoro Caring Hands Foundation, Ms. Ozioma Okoro, gave a vivid account of the journey so far.
“It started as a calling. I often say that you have to be drawn to the plight of others before you can even lend a helping hand. You have to imagine yourself in the shoes of people who need justice; and people who need kindness. Helping people is a calling.
“And many years ago, I was called, and haven’t looked back since. I’m here now because I decided to use my voice in support of domestic violence survivors and victims. This is one of the greatest gifts of my life: the ability to know and see women, girls, and children; the ability to help them live full lives through our noble foundation.
“This is why Ozioma Okoro Caring Hands Foundation is a fulfilling and purpose-driven movement for me, and I know the incredible people who are part of our foundation will feel the same way.”
Explaining the focus of the foundation, Ms. Okoro said, “I have always envisioned a world where women, girls, and children would feel safe, seen, heard and understood. This dream can become a reality. This dream should be a reality. I know this because this particular dream, this vision of mine, was born out of pain and experience. I will not go into the details of what I endured, but I’m happy that I can say that part of my life turned out for good. And it has led me to this point of my journey where I can use my voice to bring about social change.
“The human race is always meant to evolve. It’s why we have survived as a species. Because we change, and we adapt, and we make new things. Well, the times have changed so much in the past century, and as such, our perspectives on women and girls trapped in or emerging from abusive relationships should change as well.
“Every single day, there’s news of women surviving domestic violence and abuse, or not surviving at all. My heart breaks for the women I know, and those I don’t, in Nigeria, India, and all around the world. It’s 2024 and women are still being treated like they are worth nothing. Isn’t that the sad thing? How can we evolve like this?
“We can, and we must work to end cycles of domestic violence in our communities. I shouldn’t have to say this in 2024, but women, girls, and children are not objects for terrible humans to treat horribly. They are human beings and should be treated with every ounce of dignity and respect.
“For many years, I dreamt of bringing Ozioma Okoro Caring Hands Foundation to fruition in the world. It started as an idea, but after so many years, I’m thrilled to see it blossoming in fruition. Yesterday’s dream is a reality today”.
According to her, “today, we are excited to announce the launch of our website: https://oziomaokorocaringhandsfoundation.org/ Please, kindly click on the link to go through our website and support us. We will continue sharing our journey with the world through our website and social media platforms.
“Our updates will be frequent, and they will be at communal, national and global levels. Make sure to subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated as we continue to advocate against domestic abuse, and all forms of gender-based violence against women, girls, and children,” she said.
Ms. Okoro explaining the successes recorded so far, reiterated that “It is a blessing to see my voice that was once silenced, now speaking for the good of many. I will continue to use my voice until children, women, and girls are free of pain, shame, and societal neglect.
“My voice will speak for those who suffer stigma and discrimination as survivors of gender-based violence. That is why I’ll leave no page in my story unread. And I will not stop until real change happens. I will not stop until I, Ozioma Okoro, will be remembered as the woman who rejected silence but spoke for the voiceless.
“It’s a fact of life that when women and girls are heard, empowered, and allowed to speak, they contribute immensely to the development of society. Give women power, and watch them use it to make their communities thrive and flourish, witness how stability and peace become possible under their control. I am not a victim. I am a strong voice, and I will never be silenced. I am a survivor.”
Ms. Okoro further expressed her gratitude to everyone who has been supporting the journey, especially, “our volunteers, members, domestic violence survivors, sponsors, board members, program coordinator, mentors, graphic designers, photographer/cinematographer, and chef: THANK YOU SO MUCH. It is a privilege to have you all working together so that our community becomes better.
