I do not believe that there is any other political party in the Southeast that has enjoyed the love and support of the masses like the PDP. During the Atikuobi presidential election, against all odds, the support from the SE was massive.
Sen. Stella Odua jumped from APGA back to PDP in 2019 and won the Anambra South senatorial seat. Hon. Azubogu, Hon. Ofumelu and Hon. Linda Ikpeazu, although now in APC are in the NASS with the PDP tickets. Hon. Akaegbobi, Osite et al are in the state house of Assembly with PDP tickets. Hon. Onwuaso is in the NASS with a PDP ticket. Senator Uche Ekwunife under PDP won Umeh, a sitting senator in 2019.
But, why does PDP always lose in Anambra gubernatorial elections?
When people are driven by vision, they invest their resources to see that their vision becomes reality. In the case of the PDP Anambra, the vision of the so-called power blocks is to make sure no other person outshines or outgrows them politically so that they will remain relevant and their political offices intact. Most of them win their wards, and even local governments in other elections but gubernatorial race.
Some of the so-called power blocks do not want PDP to produce a governor in Anambra State, because that will close their offices and probably some of them will be retired politically. So, they serve the party’s candidate the sweet wine in a poisonous chalice, while he or she is carried away by the sweetness of its aroma and the relishing taste of the wine, the poison eats deep into his or her system. Simply put, they give you the governorship ticket and work hard to see you fail.
All they care about is their structure, and how to retain their position as leaders. But, we know a leader leads and does not destroy.
PDP Anambra needs 100 percent overhauling, giving positions to those who see the party beyond their little personal structure, their relevance which is useless if they keep failing. The party needs to be saved from the bearers of this poisonous chalice.
