A 40-year-old man from Ondo state, Tope Oladiran, has been arrested by the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Onikan for snatching phones and computer laptops from hapless victims.
Tope, (no fixed address) is said to be lurking around Ikorodu axis looking for who to attack and snatch their phones or laptop computers.
Confirming his arrest on Monday in Lagos, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hauwa Idris Adamu, said in a statement that the suspect operates during the early hours of the day and late hours of the night.
Tope, it was learnt has been squatting with his girlfriend who works in a Hotel as a waitress; a relationship that has given birth to a child. Whenever the lady wasn’t available, Tope hangs within the hotel premises, the police said.
Police also revealed that what sold the suspect out was the last operation he undertook. During the operation, Tope was said to have preyed on a woman at Ori-Okuta, Agric area of Ikorodu about 2300hrs on March 29, 2020.
“Unable to rob the woman of her mobile phone before she went into her compound, he was able to ascertain that the woman lives alone with her two children in the compound.”
To perfect his heinous act, Tope allegedly hang around until later that night when he scaled through the fence and gained entrance into the compound.
“He was able to enter the building through the kitchen and went straight upstairs and hit the woman and threatened her. Frightened, the woman pleaded for her life and that of her children while she offered him her phone and laptop computer.”
Not done yet, “the suspect ransacked the whole building and found some frozen food stocked in the freezer and boiled some for himself, went to the victim and told her all he was doing in the kitchen.”
“He further threatened to have unlawful canal knowledge of the woman when he was done eating what he was preparing in the kitchen.”
Unfortunately, when he returned to the kitchen to dish what he had cooked, the helpless woman smartly jumped from upstairs and raised an alarm calling for help. But before the desired help came, the suspect had escaped with the woman’s phone.
However, the case was reported to the operatives of the Zonal Monitoring Unit who had several botched attempts to get him but escaped through the ceiling.
Unfortunately for the suspect, he was apprehended through native intelligence in Akute axis of Lagos where he was relaxing in a hotel.
DSP Hauwa added that Investigation was ongoing and suspect would be charged to court for prosecution upon completion of the investigation.
