The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Chigbo Umeugokwe, of Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, Aguata Local Government Area, for alleged armed robbery and defilement of a 13-year-old girl.
The suspect was picked up on November 11, 2025, by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (Gender Unit), Awka, with support from the local community security outfit.
Police investigations revealed that Umeugokwe allegedly stormed a shop in the community on October 29, 2025, armed with a locally made single-barrel gun and a small axe. He reportedly wore a red polo shirt as a face mask, abducted the 13-year-old girl, and took her into a nearby bush where he allegedly defiled her. He also allegedly stole ₦30,000 from the shop.
Police spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the suspect made a voluntary confessional statement. Recovered exhibits include a locally made single-barrel gun, a small axe, and the red polo shirt used as a face covering.
He added that the suspect will be arraigned in court on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
