The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected member of a proscribed secessionist group during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Ihiala on Wednesday, 20 November 2025.
The suspect, identified as Friday Nnamdi Anyikame, was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu. He was found in possession of two pump-action guns and 29 live cartridges, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu.
During questioning, Anyikame reportedly confessed to being an active member of an armed group and disclosed that he operates from a criminal camp located within Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the officers for their swift action and directed an immediate escalation of surveillance and targeted raid operations across Anambra State. He stated that the Command is intensifying efforts to track down other fleeing members of the gang and dismantle their network.
CP Orutugu urged residents to remain vigilant and continue assisting security agencies with credible information that could support ongoing operations aimed at enhancing public safety.
