The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, on Sunday confirmed the murder of the sisters of the renowned novelist, Chimamanda Adichie.
It was gathered that the 40-year-old sister is married to the Okoye family in Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area.
Reports said the late Mrs Nkiru Okoye, a mother of five was allegedly killed by unknown persons without any known cause.
According to reports, her husband, Mr Okoye and the family including their community are demanding justice over her death.
According to the Police spokesperson, police have commenced investigations on the murder case adding that some of the policemen had been deployed to the community to maintain law and order.
According to Tochukwu, the Command and other security agencies would not fold their hands and allow criminal elements to disturb the peace existing in the state.
It was learned that the bereaved family had threatened to take action if the suspect or suspects were arrested adding that they would be forced to take laws into their hands to avenge the death of their sister.
According to Mr Emenike Okoye, the husband of the late Mrs Okoye, he was preparing for work while his late wife (Nkiru) was preparing to travel home (Abba) for a meeting of Umuada (Daughters of her kindred in Abba) when her assailants invaded their house around 7-8 am.
“We did not do anything. They overpowered us, beat us to a stupor and left. Later when my children have gone to school, they returned with some persons and dangerous weapons, including an axe.
“They dragged my wife outside the house, hit and killed her with axe and chair. She felled and died. When I resisted their move to drag me outside too, they broke my hand with an axe and dragged me outside; hitting me with the axe all over my body until I passed out.
“You can see the cut on my eyes. They left me thinking that I was also dead. But God helped me to wake up later. I reported the incident to our local vigilante and they drove me to hospital,” he said.
Mr Emenike, left with five children- two boys and three girls, who are between the ages of three, four and 11 is appealing for justice over the death of his 40-year-old wife.
“I’m deeply in pain. My hand is broken. I cannot stand or sit down. My waist is paining me. My head is heating like hot water. I cannot see well with my eyes. I need serious medical attention,” he lamented.
Some members of the Ogbunike Daughters Association (Umuada Ogbunike), Mrs Nkechinyeru Nwoye and Ms Ogochukwu Okoye, described the incident as an abomination.
They urged the local vigilante and their brothers (male folks of the kindred) to seriously work hard and make sure that the perpetrators of the heinous crime didn’t get away with the murder.
They stressed that what they need is justice for Emenike and his late wife.
The younger brother of late Nkiru, Mr Chidiebele Okelue, appealed to the Commissioner of Police, Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to unravel the killers of the deceased.
