As part of proactive security measures ahead of the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to intensify intelligence-led operations and conduct coordinated raids on identified flashpoints within their jurisdictions.
The directive aims to preempt and neutralize any emerging threats related to political thuggery, cult activities, and the unlawful possession of firearms, ensuring a peaceful and secure electoral atmosphere across the State.
According to CP Orutugu, credible intelligence at the Command’s disposal indicates that certain individuals and groups, acting on behalf of political interests, are attempting to mobilize youths for acts of violence before and during the election.
He warned that the Police will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone or group found disrupting public peace, intimidating voters, or undermining the electoral process.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the neutrality and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that its primary responsibility is to protect lives and property, safeguard the integrity of the electoral process, and enforce the law without fear, favour, or political bias.
