…as arsonist held for attempting to burn Charly Boy’s father’s house

The axiom that everyday for the thief, one day for the owner played out on Wednesday as the Imo State Police Command paraded some notorious kidnappers for the kidnap of Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Bishop Moses Chikwe at the state capital, Owerri.
Also paraded was an arsonist who attempted to burn down a house belonging to the father of music icon, Charly Boy, late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.
It was learnt that on the 27th of December, 2020, Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Bishop Moses Chikwe and his driver, Ndubuisi Robert were kidnapped.
Confirming the arrest of the culprits and subsequent parade, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu said following the kidnap, the Command had to strategize leading to the release of the Bishop and others held captive.
He observed that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Nasiru Mohammed who took the bull by the horns and activated all the tactical units of the command, which galvanised in the arrest of the suspects involved in the act.
The suspects who have confessed to the commission of the crime included: Peter Aluo aka “Okwudor” 28 years from Awara; Ihedum Ulunwa aka “Iron” 31 years also from Awara; and Osinachi Ngozi aka 26 years of Awara; all male and from Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State have also admitted committing other related crimes.
It was learnt that they were arrested on the 28th February, 2021, by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) and Quick Intervention Team (QIT).
Also paraded was one Chukwuemeka Anyim ‘m’ of Reserve ‘B’ Housing Estate, World Bank, Owerri, who was said to be making plans to kidnap his employer; a woman.
SP Ikeokwu explained that based on credible information received on 9th March 2021, operatives of the Divisional Police Headquarters Nekede/Ihiagwa around FUTO Road, Umuanunu, Ihiagwa swung into action and arrested the suspect.
However, an arsonist identified as Emmanuel Ogbonna ‘m’ of Amazuo Village in Oguta, has been arrested and paraded for attempting to burn down the residence of the late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.
The suspect was arrested on tbe 8th March, 2021, by operatives of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Oguta who responded to a distressed call.
The suspect who claimed that he was frustrated with life, as he has not been able to secure a job after graduating from the university, decided to vent his anger by razing down the building of prominent persons in his community.
He said he believe that the burning of late Justice Oputa’s house will draw the attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The fire was put off by some people in the area almost immediately after he ignited it.
So Ikeokwu reiterated that all the cases are being investigated with a view to bringing to book those that are found culpable.
