The Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Ari Muhammed Ali has called on officers and men of the Command not to relent in its proactive steps at ensuring that there were continuous raids of black spot and “Stop and Search” operations especially on black spots and vulnerable areas across the state.
To that end, on August 31, 2021, at about 0930hrs, the Illah Divisional patrol team while on Aberdeen patrol along Illah-Asaba road, received a report from one Bature Ibrahim, a driver of Dangote company truck, that about 0300hrs of the same date while trying to park his truck with Reg. DAS. 690 ZY and loaded with 900 bags of cement at Okpella in Edo State, they were attacked and taken the truck away.
Explaining how they were attacked, he said that four armed men had emerged from the bush and dragged him and his conductor into the bush; gave them several machete cuts and tied them with rope before taking them away with the truck.
As a result, the patrol team swung into action, they later located the truck somewhere in Illah where it was parked at Aniegele along Illah-Asaba road.
It was further disclosed by the Delta State Police spokesperson DSP Bright Edafe that when the criminals sighted the patrol vehicle, they jumped into the bush and took to their heels.
However, with the combined efforts of the police with the local vigilantes, they chased them and four suspects namely Ozioma Umez; Uchenna Idenyi; Chibuike Nwamgbo and Chiolada Nomha, all-male were arrested in connection with the crime with two cutlasses recovered from the suspects.
In another development but on the same day, August 31, 2021, about 2125hrs, Dragon 02 patrol team of the command while conducting a “stop and search” along Agbor/Asaba expressway by Issele-Uku intercepted one red coloured Qlink Motorcycle with Reg number: LEG 326 QN conveying three people.
Upon sighting the patrol team, they abandoned the motorcycle and ran into a nearby bus. They were chased, and consequently, one of the suspects named Musa kabiru, a 42 years male resident in Onitsha was arrested.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the discovery of one locally made pistol, one live cartridge and four mobile handsets. The owners of the phones have identified their phones as theirs and also identified the suspect as one of the gangs that robbed them. An effort is on top gear to arrest other fleeing members of the gangs while the investigation is ongoing.
Consequent upon these developments, CP Ali had urged residents of the state to be vigilant at all times and to be security conscious.
He also advised Deltans to make use of distress phone numbers made available to reach the command as soon as the need arises while also thanking members of the public for their continuous support in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
