The Anambra State Police Command on Saturday morning rescued a day old baby that was abandoned inside a gutter by an unknown person in Awka, Anambra State.
According to the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Haruna Mohammed, disclosed that a good Samaritan resident at Abuja Estates behind NSCDC office, Awka reported at B Division Police Station Awka that about 7:30am, a day old baby boy was wrapped up in a cloth and abandoned inside a gutter.
It was learnt that every efforts made to trace the mother of the baby proved abortive.
However, SP Mohammed further explained that the scene has been visited by Police operatives attached to JWC and the baby who is in good health condition was rescued and handed over to “Time to fort Care Specialist Medical Centre Awka” for safe keeping.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Welfare children and Women Affairs were contacted and the baby would be handed over to the Social Welfare Department for proper care while effort is ongoing to trace the mother in order to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the baby.
