The days of criminal gangs masquerading and harassing hapless and law-abiding citizens is getting over in Delta State as the State Police Command has intensified efforts to carry out aggressive “Stop and Search” which has led to the arrest of several suspects and recovery of firearms.
DSP Edafe Bright, Spokesperson of the Command said in Asaba on Friday that the operation is part of the proactive policing that has been put in place by CP Ari Muhammed Ali.
Consequently, he disclosed that on August 23, 2021, at about 0700hrs, Safer-Highway teams stationed between Delta and Edo states boundary along Sapele Benin Road while on stop and search duty, intercepted a white colour Nissan Maxima with Registration No: JJJ 494 ES.
It was gathered that the vehicle was flagged down for search which resulted to the recovery of one AK47 rifle with breach No. 7165 with nine rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
The suspect found in possession of the gun, one Davison Edehede, a male and 34 years of Ugbor road Ukpaka area of Warri was arrested.
Also on the same day, about 0700hrs, while acting on credible information that a cultist has been trailing one man (name withheld), Delta State Police Command Raider operatives were mandated to investigate and unravel the person behind the threat.
The investigation led to the arrest of one Ifeanyi Ajudia at Ibusa. A search warrant was executed in the house and premises of the suspect where one locally fabricated Beretta pistol without magazine was recovered. An investigation is ongoing to unravel the source of the pistol.
