In its efforts to clean the state of criminal elements, the Katsina State Police Command has arrested a five-man gang of armed robbers, armed with cutlasses, sticks and other dangerous weapons to attack one Abba Amadu of Unguwar Madugu village in the state.
The victim was robbed of his unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle valued at N270,000.
In the course of investigation, three suspects were arrested in connection with the offence. The suspects included Umar Sani, 65, alias teacher, of Unguwar Jalatu in Bakori Local Government Area; Yalli Suleiman, 35, and Inusa Hussaini, 30, all of Yari Bori village in Kafur Local Government Area.
However, the motorcycle was later recovered and released to the complainant while the rest members of the gang are still at large.
The Command also arrested one Hassan Ayuba alias Kwarwa, 40, of Katsinawa village in Kankara Local Government Area for conspiring with nine others to kill Shaiabu Adamu Maikanwa, a 20-year-old boy who was on his way from the market.
The mother of the deceased, Ramatu Adamu, had on August 27, 2020, about 18:00hrs, reported at Malumfashi Area Command, that on August 11, 2020, she sent her son Shaiabu Adamu Maikanwa, with 10 bags of maize to sell at Kankara market. Unfortunately on his way home, unknown persons attacked him, killed and dumped his corpse in a bush.
During the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to have conspired with Nura Commando; Andana Gundawa; Alhaji Kabiru alias Ketare; Muhammadu Yaron Rabe; Nazibu, Boto Yaron Aminu Koshe; Aminu Hamisu Kanen Maikwalli; Babangida Marmara Zayyanu Gidan Godo; Muddaha Gidan Chindo; Murtala Kurba and Iliya Danmitsi Gobarawa to kill the boy.
It was further learnt that all the suspects were members of vigilante group of Kankara Local Government Area and all are said to be at large.
Commissioner of Police, CP Sanusi Buba revealed that they attacked and robbed the deceased of his motorcycle, one GSM Handset, and the sum of N185,000.
However, through discreet investigations, one Lawal Muntari, 40, who hails from Sabon Gida village in Kankara LGA, and the principal receiver of the motorcycle was equally arrested by the police.
Also arrested for kidnapping were Jamilu Mamman, 30, and Yunusa Umar, 40, both of kanawa and katsalle villages of Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina on August 22, 2020, about 1430hrs, based on credible intelligence.
However, Jamilu Mamman was said to have confessed and conspired Ummaru Dogo, Isah kudi, Barumaye and Tasi’u Wainde all Fulani Bandits at Yantumaki forest to commit the crime.
The suspects had gone to the house of one Alhaji Mannir katsalle and kidnapped a woman by name Yargogo. Jamiu agreed receiving N50,000 as his own share of the ransom.
Besides that, he also confessed to have taken part in the kidnap of one Shafa’atu Zayyanu in Katsalle village, and also received N50,000 as his own share.
The Command with a remarkable feat at tracking the activities of organised criminals also on August 27, 2020 arrested
Abubakar Habibu, 30, Babangida Yahaya 30, Abubakar Ibrahim Fulani, 20, Abubakar Ashiru alias Abu tsirya, 30, Ibrahim Jibiro, 20, and Labaran Sule, 25, for terrorism and banditry.
The gangs from Dutsin-ma, Kurfi, Safana, Kankara and Danmusa LGAs of Katsina state had in their possession one Bajaj motorcycle with chasis No. HWJ68007, a Butt of AK47 rifle, three Tecno handsets, three pilgrimage passports, charms and the sum of N390,500.
Also, the trio Suleiman Mohammed, 35, of Filin Polo Quarters, Katsina; Ibrahim Bashir, 24, of Babbar Ruga village, Batagarawa LGA of Katsina state; and Jamilu Sani, 30, of Daki Tara Quarters, Katsina and others now at large duped two men of N1.5m under false pretense.
Muhammed Sani and Bala Ibrahim both of Kwado Quarters, Katsina had jointly reported at Sabon Gari Police Station that between the months of May and July, 2020, the suspects conspired to dupe them under false pretence.
It was further gathered that the suspect had promised the victims that they would use spiritual means to attract customers to their business but later discovered that they had no such powers but were mere dupes.
Police investigation revealed that the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime but denied collecting N1.5m but only got M70,0000 from the victims.
However, recovered from them included one empty Iron box; some spiritual perfumes; two local mats and packets of Air freshener.
CP Buba reiterated the commitment of his command to rout every criminal gang adding that those arrested are being investigated and would be charged appropriately to the court for prosecution.
