The Anambra State Police Command has started the training and orientation programme for vigilante operatives across the State.
The ongoing programme is strategically focused on human rights education, adherence to the rule of law, and standard operational procedures in security practice.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the capacity-building initiative is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to deepen community policing, promote inter-agency synergy, and enhance professionalism among security actors from the grassroots.

The training features resource persons drawn from senior and experienced Police Officers within the Command, sister security agencies, civil society organizations, human rights groups, and other security stakeholders. These facilitators are guiding the participants on best practices in community safety, intelligence gathering, ethical conduct, and lawful engagement strategies.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD* has reiterated that the training is part of the Command’s broader efforts to institutionalize professionalism and discipline among local security operatives supporting internal security.

He further emphasized that respect for the fundamental rights of citizens and close coordination with formal law enforcement agencies are core expectations for all vigilante operatives.
The Command, therefore, urges all community-based vigilante groups to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders to ensure smooth coordination and supervision throughout the exercise.
The Anambra State Police Command remains resolute in promoting a safer, more secure society, where community partnership remains central to lasting peace and development.
