The presidency has denied any security report on the former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, against picking him as the running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The presidency described the alleged advisory letter to the President by the DSS as a false story adding that it’s a laughably puerile report by an apparently pirate online newspaper seeking to sow division and chaos on the choice of Governor Kashim Shettima as a vice presidential candidate.
The presidency urged the well-meaning Nigerians and the general public to ignore the news reports.
Shettima was unveiled in Kastina State by the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Tinubu presented Shettima to the party stakeholders and the leader of the party, President Mohammadu Buhari during the Sallah festival.
Since the emergence of Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate, prominent Nigerians have been criticizing the choice describing it as dangerous to the unity of Nigeria.
Social media had reported that the Director of State Service, DSS, sent security reports against choosing Shettima to the President but the security report was ignored.
Denying the purported security report, on Friday, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said there was no DSS advisory report to the President before Shettima was selected as the APC running mate.
“We wish to advise well-meaning Nigerians to ignore a laughably puerile report by an apparently pirate online newspaper seeking to sow division and chaos on the choice of Governor Kashim Shettima as the Running Mate of our Party’s Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This so-called newspaper is like a deadly virus. Stay safe by keeping away from its toxic reports.” The statement reads.
