The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has declared on Monday, May 24, 2021, as a work-free day for members of the Armed Forces to honour the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 others officers that died in the ill-fated plane crash last Friday in Kaduna.
Following the sad development, the President has ordered that the National flag to fly in half-mast in public buildings, facilities and official residence from May 24 – 26, 2021.
In a statement on Sunday evening by the Secretary to the Federal Government of Nigeria, Boss Mustapha explained that “this approval is to honour the memory and services of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 senior military officers and service members who lost their lives in the plane crash of Friday, May 21, 2021.
It would be recalled that the late COAS and 10 others that died in the Beachcraft 350 Nigerian Airforce Plane were interred at the National Military Cemetery on Saturday amidst tears and wailing.
