
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) successfully commemorated its maiden National Police Day on April 7, 2025, with a grand celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja.
The event marked a significant milestone in recognizing the vital role of the police in ensuring national security and stability.
The highlight of the event was a spectacular parade and procession by police personnel, which showcased their professionalism and skills in the art.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the parade comprised an array of operational and tactical gadgets of the force such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal Robots, specialized EOD disposal vehicles, Special Intervention Squad air and land responses, K9 displays, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Protection Unit (SPU), and Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) drill displays, Peacekeeping Paraphernalia amongst others.

In his address, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., emphasized the significance of the National Police Day as a symbol of the NPF’s renewed commitment to professionalism, community partnership, and service excellence.
The IGP, while appreciating His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the pronouncement of April 7th annually as National Police Day, stated the pledge of the Force to deepen its reforms, and reinforce its bond with the communities, reiterating the Force’s determination to uphold the rule of law, combat crime, and ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.

In the speech of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who was the Special Guest of Honour but represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to the improvement in areas of welfare, provision of modern equipments and technology to improve operational capability and efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force.
He furthermore commended the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of police officers throughout Nigeria in combatting insecurity.

The momentous occasion brought together an array of distinguished guests from the highest levels of Government, security agencies, and the private sector including members from the Federal Executive Council, State Governors, the National Assembly, Service Chiefs, Retired Inspectors-General of Police, Deputy Inspectors-General of Police & Members of the Force Management Team, Retired Senior Police officers, Members of Police Veteran Association, Heads and Captains of industries, and other distinguished dignitaries.
The Nigeria Police Force extends its sincere appreciation to all attendees, partners, and stakeholders whose contributions ensured the resounding success of this maiden National Police Day celebration, as the Force remains committed to building upon this momentum to enhance its capabilities, strengthen community relations, and foster a safer and more secure environment for all Nigerians.
